  20. WS_Ping ProPack is an integrated set of Internet diagnostic 
  21. and information tools brought to you by the makers of 
  22. WS_FTP Pro, WS_PING, and WS_PING32. WS_Ping ProPack provides
  23. an easy-to-use graphical interface to the most commonly
  24. used Internet tools, including Ping, Traceroute, DNS Lookup, 
  25. Finger, Whois, LDAP, SNMP, and Scan tools. This set of tools
  26. will help you quickly track down network problems and find
  27. information about users, hosts, and networks on the Internet 
  28. (or in an intranet).

  30. WS_Ping ProPack runs on Windows 95 or Windows NT systems and 
  31. can query any systems on a TCP/IP network, including PCs,
  32. UNIX systems, and routers.

  35. Installation
  36. ============

  38. If you have the download self-extracting file (WSP_Rel.exe), run
  39. the file to start the installation. 
  40.  
  41. If you have the download zip file (WSP_Rel.zip), unzip the file into
  42. a temporary directory and run install.exe. 
  43.  
  44. If you have the program disk, insert the disk in a drive and run 
  45. install.exe.

  48. Customizing the Installation
  49. ============================

  51. If you have the self-extracting program (WSP_Rel.exe):
  52. ------------------------------------------------------

  54. You can run the installation program with the following parameters:
  55.  
  56. - The -quiet or -silent parameters run the installation without 
  57.   displaying installation information on the screen. Output from the 
  58.   installation program is logged to the file setup.log in the 
  59.   directory where you launched the installation. 
  60.   (For example, run: wsp_rel.exe -quiet)
  61.  
  62. - The -remove parameter removes a WS_Ping ProPack installation. 
  63.   (For example, run: wsp_rel.exe -remove)
  64.  
  65. If you have the zip file (WSP_Rel.zip) or program disk:

  68. You can customize the WS_Ping ProPack installation program to:
  69.  
  70. - Install a subset of the available tools
  71. - Set the default program directory
  72. - Set the default Program Manager group
  73. - Do a silent install, whereby you can run the installation 
  74.   program from the command line without displaying any 
  75.   information to the screen (output is logged to the file setup.log).

  77. To customize the installation program:
  78.  
  79. 1. Unzip the download directory in a temporary directory.
  80.  
  81. 2. Edit the file wspingpr.inf as follows:
  82.  
  83.    In the [setup] section, each of the tools is shown with a
  84.    corresponding number (for example, 1=ping,2=trace). Add the
  85.    numbers of the tools that you do not want in the installation,
  86.    and then enter the total in the applets= parameter.

  88.    For example, if you do not want Traceroute and LDAP in the
  89.    installation, add 2=trace plus 32=LDAP and enter applets=34
  90.    in the [setup] section.

  92.    To set the default program directory, change the path in the 
  93.    progdir= parameter.
  94.  
  95.    To set the default Program Manager group, change the group 
  96.    name in the group= parameter. 
  97.  
  98.    To run the silent install, set the Quiet parameter equal to 1.
  99.    When you run install.exe, WS_Ping ProPack will be installed 
  100.    using the current settings in the wspingpr.inf file. Output 
  101.    will not be displayed to the screen. Output from the installation
  102.    program is logged to the file setup.log in the directory where
  103.    you launched the installation.
